I need to access an LINUX machine to do some file maintenance for example see if a file exist or delete it. Can QTP work with Linux and UNIX system and if so how?

When I run an automated script in QTP and it gets errors, I look at the results file. When I drill down and select each error, sometimes it shows me a screen capture app under test associated with that error, and sometimes it does not. I do not see any pattern so far. When I am installing QTP 10 I get the message 'StringReplacer has stopped working'. I have two options check on line and close program. I just closed the window and QTP installs. The problem is that I can not record or play back on IE scripts.
