Question ID: 105611

Hi All,

Here is a problem:
Test case consist of many ‘call to test’ steps. During the test run it brings all steps from initial test cases. Our testers ask to make ‘call to test’ steps as one step during running. However, they want to keep the link to initial test case in ‘Design Steps’ view.

Hello user,
Unfortunately that is now how the ''Call To Test'' functionality works. What happens is within the back end the call to test is actually a link to the called test and the expectation is that during run time, the calling step, then opens the linked test and steps through those steps. It is designed this way so that if a called test is changed without the knowledge of the testers, then it would correctly display the execution status of that test within the originating test.

The only way that I could see making this work as your testers would like it to is by instead of having the test called, the users would have to imbed the information of the called test within the step and then it would be their responsibility to go and open that test and execute it. For the linkage to be created as thou wish the call to test is the correct procedure,

you could set up a test set that would execute each test in a row, such as the first test be the login test, the next the main body execution test and then the final test in that set be a log out test.

Unfortunately the functionality that you are desiring is not what would be the best recommended practice for testing procedures and so the testing tool is designed to not work the way that you are requesting.

I hope this helps,
