DNS conflict when Ip spoofing is enabled
Question ID: 106771

We are currently using LoadRunner 12.02.
Our team has created 5 virtual IPs using IP Spoofying tool (192.168.x.x). However, this is creating DNS conflict. Due to which LG is not accessible. I raised this concern to our System administrators and they have a concern as product is not configuring the IPs as expected. Please see below the steps, I followed to create virtual IPs.

1. Run IP Wizard on LG to add the IPs to emulate in scenario.
2. Enable IP Spoofing in the Host machine.

Any thoughts or recommendations would be great.

Hi,

ARP spoofing may allow an attacker to intercept data frames on a [network][1], modify the traffic, or stop all traffic. Often the attack is used as an opening for other attacks, such as denial of service, man in the middle, or session hijacking attacks....

**Yes,** IP spoofing can be used for Evil (hacking) and for Good (testing). It is all a matter of risk management. For LoadRunner and Performance Center to testing IP sticky application IP spoofing is needed or you will need a Load Generator(LG) per Vusers. without IP spoofing --- > **1000 Vuser : 1000 LGs** **OR** with IP spoofing **1000 Vuser : 5 LG (with 200 IPs per LG)** NOTE: the IP spoofing can be disabled when not using for testing

There are three overall steps that must be taken to successfully set up IP Spoofing with Performance Center.

1. Contact your Network Administrator and request a block of IP addresses. These IP
Addresses must exist in your LAN prior to running the IP Wizard.

Run the IP Wizard on each Load Generators. After completing, you
must restart the Load Generators. Each Load Generator require a UNIQUE block of
addresses.

2. Update the server's routing table with the new addresses

3. Enable the Multiple IP Addresses feature from Performance Center by setting an
option to tell the Controller to use this feature.

Also, How to Enable IP Spoofing in ALM starts on page 227 of the HP ALM Performance Center Guide.

If you setup the IP Spoofing correctly according to the documentation provided, then provide the following:

* Specific DNS Error with Screen Shot
* Please run the ''LoadRunner Detect'' software uploaded to this case on Load Generator and upload the report generated by this tool to the case

Please let us know the outcome.

Hope this helps.
