To stay in compliance for some of the HP tools, I need to disable Chrome browser from auto updating. We use a couple of different versions, so need to know how to disable on current and older versions if possible.

Hello,

**For the more recent versions of Chrome**, not sure where exactly this begins, but for instance on version 47, the information listed on below link will work to disable the auto update feature. The pictures don't tend to match the required steps, so I will list out the steps for you.

[Newer Chrome Steps][1]

1. Download and install the group policy template for Google Update Administration. Can be found here on this [link][2]
2. Search and open the editor ''gpedit.msc''
3. Navigate to User Configuration - Administrative Templates
4. Right click on Administrative Templates, select add/remove templates from menu bar.
5. In the popup window click add button and navigate to where you downloaded the GoogleUpdate.adm file, select it and then click close button
6. New entry is created under Local Computer Policy - Computer Configuration - Administrative Templates - Classic Administrative Templates called Google
7. Navigate to Administrative Templates - Google - Google Update - Applications - Google Chrome
8. Right click on Update Policy Override and select edit
9. Click enabled button and in the scrollbar list under Policy choose Updates disabled and click OK

This will disable the auto update on the more recent versions of Chrome. About then for me shows the version and a message such as ''An error occurred while checking for updates: Update check failed to start (error code 3: 0x80040154).

**For older version of Chrome browser**, the steps from this [link][3]

This link is accurate with pictures. I do method 1 and 2 as method 1 alone does not seem to block. So be sure to complete the steps for each method.

On my machines, in the registry, as listed in method 2, the keys

*HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREPolicies*

*HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREWow6432Node*

Did not have Google so I had to create it and under it the Update and then UpdateDefault with DWORD (32-bit) value.

Upon both of these methods being done, the About page now lists ''Updates are disabled by the Administrator''.

Nice details. That looks to be exactly what I need. I will test out on a few browser versions.
