ALM 11 Patch 17 broke defect automail

After installing Patch 17, our defect automail is not being sent, we receive alerts automail and regular mail from QC but the defect automail is not sent….. we also see the following error in the SA logs which seems to be related: Messages:

This is a known issue and is fixed in Patch 18 for ALM 11 this is fixed in QCCR1J65710. See below excerpt from the Patch 18 readme and contact your HP support rep for this patch. QCCR1J65710 Sending mail from ALM, manual or automated, failed in some entities. Marked as spam
