Simple answer is Maybe.
Using the SAP addin with portal can dramatically slow down the QTP run. The SAP Addin causes QTP to execute lines of code at around 2 minutes per line, even with no SAP object in that line of code. While I Don't know the Specifics of why the SAP addin does this it is due to the object recoginition used in the SAP addin. Using the Web addin without the SAP Addin fixes this issue.

I agree with the answer provided by Michael above...but want to go 1 step further as far as solutions. I have been working with a couple of customers who have SAP Portal and have found that the most efficient solution to effectively leveraging automation is to use HPs Business Process Testing (BPT). If you use the QTP add-in with SAP TAO, you'll find that the performance is extremely poor...as in you could execute the tests manually faster than with automation...however...the framework associated with BPT & TAO are the same which allows you to synchronize your component based scripts into a single library and execute via HP Quality Center (QC), which allows you to enjoy a single source of truth from a test execution & reporting perspective. community wiki I agree with the answer provided by Michael above...but want to go 1 step further as far as solutions.
