Cannot Launch Testing Tool
Question ID: 104108

I’m trying to launch QTP to automate a BPT component, however, every time I do I get an error saying that "Cannot launch testing tool. Unable to open testing tool. The testing tool is busy." I’m using QTP 10 and QC 10 on an Windows XP image. What can I do to fix this?

*edit: I’ve tried doing this while QTP was running and while QTP was not running.

Make sure you have the QC connectivity add-in, the remote testing agent add-in and the BPT Testing add-in (found on the add-ins page for QC under ''More add-ins''.

Also, go to the options settings in QTP and make sure the ''Allow other HP tools to launch...'' checkbox is selected.

If you have already done this or none of these work, you may have a bad install of one - my first guess would be QTP.

Hope this helps.

The ''Allow other HP tools to launch...'' checkbox is selected, however I don't have a way to download the the add-ins if they are not already installed. I'm using an image that is an ''offline only training image''. How would I check to see if it's already installed?

I went to my base OS and downloaded the add-in and brought it over to the image. I got another error stating : Validation failed. The specified repository path does not exist or does not point to valid HP Qaulity Center repository location. I've tried every possible location and still cannot install the add-in.

In the bottom-right corner of the screen, you should see an icon that when moused over says ''QuickTest Professional Remote agent running.'' Right-click on this and click exit.

Something that may be preventing QC from invoking QTP is the license check. Does your license check take in excess of 60 seconds to get them from the QTP License Server? What could be happening is that QC tries to check the licenses for QTP before launching the test and if it takes in excess of 60 seconds, QC will time out and not launch QTP

This error can be fixed by using the answer in the following thread: http://eyeontesting.com/questions/205/concurrent-license-check-is-very-slow

In case it wasn't exit, you can open the Task Manager and end the process AQTRmtAgent.exe
