How can the default website be changed for QuickTest Professional (QTP)

When starting QTP and going to the menu "Automation" > "Record and run Settings…" > "Web" (tab) there is an option to "Open the following address when a record or run session begins", Where is that data stored and how can it be changed.

There are two things that can be change, History, and default. Both changes are done in the registry with-in the registry editor (Start -> Run -> type ''regedit'').

Changing the default recording address:
1. Open the registry editor (Start -> Run -> type ''regedit'') and go to


HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMercury InteractiveQuickTest ProfessionalMicTestAddIn ManagerWebStartup SettingsURL  
  1. Double click on _default and enter the desired URL. This must have an URL you can not make it blank.

Clearing history

  1. Open the registry editor (Start -> Run -> type ''regedit'') and go to

KEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMercury InteractiveQuickTest ProfessionalMicTestAddIn ManagerWebStartup SettingsURLHistory  

.2. Under the history folder there is 5 folders labeled ''0'' to ''4''. Each of the folders has a _default.
3. Double click on _default and enter the desired URL. These can be blank.
