HP ALM Client has encountered a problem and needs to close
Question ID: 104666

One of my ALM client users is having an issue trying to access ALM. All other users have no issue.

Exact error message: HP ALM Client has encountered a problem and needs to close. Run time Error 217 at 090CEF3. Failed initializing qc 9 adaptors

I have tried the ALM Uninstaller client tool, deleted cache, deleted TD80 folder, deleted all temp IE files, and cleared Loader Class. When we then try to reinstall client, get same exact error (though run time error location changes). Something I am missing here?

Chances are this issue is due to a third party registry key being corrupt. I have seen this issue first-hand the and below registry edit corrects the issue each time.

To correct, delete or rename the key, which allows QC/ALM to recreate the key and therefor correct the issue.

1) Close all open browser windows
2) Go to Start > Run > Regedit and navigate to the following key:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareAltium (Dream VCL)]
3) Rename Altium (Dream VCL) to Altium_test (Dream VCL)
4) Close regedit/Close the registry editor

@MrWhite: After apply the regedit change, unistalled alm client and rebooted the computer, the alm client installed and the login page appeared. THanks for posting the answer, Works fine for me after about 8 tries until I found your response.

MrWhite... THANK YOU VERY MUCH..
I have deleted, unistalled, reinstalled and cleaned anything and everything about QC & ALM...and still got the Error 217. But after Renaming (or removing) Altium (Dream VCL)branch, QC came up perfectly. Thanks for reporting this solution.

What version of ALM client are you trying to install? Did you try a search for Altium or Dream VCL from your registry editor? That would be my recommendation is to to open regedit, and then click on Edit and select Find.
