New ALM Explorer crashes and fails to work with ”Windows cannot access the specified device” error

We just upgraded to ALM 12.55 patch 2 over the weekend. Users are trying to install the ALM explorer on their Windows 7 PC’s (yes, we still use Windows 7). We are using ALM Explorer since we have very strict environment where users cannot install from Internet Explorer without Admin assistance. After installing (even with run as Administrator) when they launch the ALM explorer for the first time, it tries to download the components needed for the ALM client to work, but towards the end the ALM client crashes and exits out. Now when the users try to relaunch the ALm explorer.exe from the folder we are getting the Windows cannot access the specified device,path or file error. We tried to see if the permissions are incorrect but that doesn’t seems to be the case.

Sorry, ALM Explorer 12.5x is NOT supported for Win 7 - according to MicroFocus Marketplace and MF/HPE-Support. I do not know of any ''tricks'' to get it working (it would NOT be supported if I did). Your problem is related to using a very old (out of support by Microsoft) OS Windows 7. When you upgraded to 12.55 P2 you needed to install ALM Explorer 12.55 because the old ALM Explorer would not work with QC12.55. The newer ALM Explorer 12.55 does NOT support Windows 7 even though the old ALM Explorer DID work with Win7, sorry. So when you did an upgrade of QC/ALM to 12.55 from the older version, this ''broke'' win7/ALM Explorer compatibility. Now, it WILL still work with Windows 7 SP1 and the IE-installed client as long as IE32 is version 10 or 11. At this point, you options are to either: Marked as spam
