Assuming the total number of objects is the same, is there any advantage (performance, load time, etc.) to using several small OR’s as opposed to one large one?

I would recommend several small ORs rather than one large. Large ORs can cause performance problems.

I always use smaller, shared ORs, usually separated by business areas of the AUT or sometimes by individual screens, whatever makes most sense. This way you can associate only the ORs you need for the test and leave the others out, which reduces the memory footprint of UFT and can help with performance.
