I was wondering how I find where the log files are located within me ALM/qc instance and can they be changed to gather more information?

Thanks in advance for all help,

Hi HomerJ,
By default the log files can be found in the following local locations on the ALM application server:

Client log files:
C:ProgramDataHPALMlogqc

Site Administrator logs:
C:ProgramDataHPALMlogsa

Although if you changed the locations during the installations (or at sometime along the way) these locations could be different. To verify your exact locations, log into Site Admin and then click on the Servers tab, select the server on the left side and then on the right side you will see the options to change the log settings (hyperlinks that open pop up boxes that enable setting changes) and the exact local path where the log files are stored to the right of the Log File Location hyperlink). Once again the log files are stored locally on the server, so you will need to log onto the server directly to access these log files.

By clicking on the hyperlinks, you will be presented with a pop up box and within it you can select the new desired level from within the drop down menu box. Also keep in mind the default level is Warning and will capture all Warning and Errors generated by the system. If you increase the level more actions will be captured so this is only a temporary change as recommended. The highest level is Debug and will capture every action performed on the system. This will gather the greatest amount of data on the system actions but will grow the log files very quickly. If the issue is not easily reproduced then it is recommended to keep a careful watch on the log files to keep them from growing too large and consuming excess storage on the system (the log files will close and create new log files based upon the log file size setting and if the even hasn't occurred one might want to purge the unneeded older log files).

Hope this helps,
Dan
