No you do not have to use the Oracle E-Business protocol bundle; however, your scripting complexity will be increased and may not cover all of the PeopleSoft functions.
The Oracle E-Business protocol bundle is recommended because it was specifically designed to work for the PeopleSoft Applications. Another advantage is that your script will require less custom coding as most correlations are automatically correlated.
