This has been working up until now. Not sure what the problem is….
When we’re trying to load an .xls file into the data tab of an API test, we’re getting the following error:

Exception of type: System.Data.OleDb.OleDbException. Source: Microsoft JET Database Engine. Occured in Void .ctor(System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnectionString, System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection) method
Exception message is: Unexpected error from external database driver (1).
This was working fine with no problem last week! Help?

We've found that [Microsoft Update KB4041681][1] is causing problems. In it, Microsoft notes:

Installing this update may cause applications based on the Microsoft JET Database Engine (Microsoft Access 2007 and older or non-Microsoft applications) to fail when creating or opening Microsoft Excel .xls files. The error message is, ''Unexpected error from external database driver (1). (Microsoft JET Database Engine)''.

If you can roll back to a restore point prior to this update or uninstall the update, it should work again.

Microsoft states in the article that they are working on a fix for these issues.

We're finding that this KB and [kb4041678][1] are causing similar issues and other issues with both UFT and ALM. We are seeing some instances where both patches being uninstalled will resolve some of the issues. [1]: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4041678/windows-7-update-kb4041678
