We have recently upgraded to ALM 12.55, and we are interested in setting up the instant message feature now available in ALM. Can you assist me on setting up and using the IM feature in ALM? Thanks!

I will be glad to assist you with this. I would like to first let you know that ALM now supports both Microsoft Lync and Skype for Business. It allows you to send instant messages to users associated with a specific ALM entity, such as users working on the same defect, test, or requirement. First, you will need to add the site parameter SKYPE_INTEGRATION_ENABLED to the list of parameters in the 'Site Configuration' tab, and set its value to 'Y'. Next, you will need to ensure that the users you want to message, are assigned to the same project, that they have the correct email addresses assigned to their user profile, and they are signed into the IM. To explain how to send an IM, I will be using the Requirements module as my example. The IM feature can also be used in the Testing and Defect modules as well. To send a message, you will need to locate a user field list, such as the authors field in the 'Requirement Details' tab, and click the presence indicator icon on the left side of the username. While in the 'Requirements Detail' window, you will need to click the drop down arrow in the 'Send IM' button, and select the users name from the list that displays. If you would like to select multiple recipients to message, you will need to click the 'Send IM' button, select all of the users from the grid displayed in the 'IM Participants' dialog, and click the 'Send IM' button. I hope this helps!
