We are looking to install QC 10.00 patch 22 on Windows 2008 R2. We also need to move the HP ALM Synchronizer Server from Windows 2003 R2. Is HP ALM Synchronizer 1.40 compatible with Windows 2008 R2? And is Synchronizer 1.40 the correct version for QC 10.00 patch 22?

Yes you can run ALM Sychronizer on a Windows 2008 R2 server but it MUST be different from the ALM server.

Also, even though this setup of ALM 10 and ALM Synchronizer can be done; ALM 10 is no longer supported so this should only be done as a temporary step in preparation for an upgrade to a newer version of ALM, 11.52 or greater.

Here are the installation steps to load Synchronizer 1.40 on Win Server 2008R2x64 (even though it is not officially supported).

1) Install Sync Server 1.40 on new server (take defaults)
2) Make sure all automatic synchronizations are turned off and made MANUAL from the OLD Sync Server
3) Get the LATEST backup (recommend making a NEW one now) made by QC-sync on from the OLD 1.40 server (from the ... HP ALM Synchronizerbackup folder)
3a) Follow User Guide section about making Synchronizer data backups manually to make one.
4) Copy backup to NEW server
5) Follow User Guide section on how to RESTORE synchronizer data (Postgres) from a backup file (do this the HP way from the user guide)
6) Load a 1.4 Sync client on Any PC and launch. Log in to NEW Sync Server and check that links exist.
7) Launch IE on NEW Sync Server and login to a QC project, look at a few defects, then logout.
8) Load the TD Connectivity addin for QC10 on the NEW Sync Server
9) Launch IE and navigate to JIRA to confirm connectivity.
10) Intstall JIRA Bridge adapters for this load of Synchronizer per ORIGINAL directions from SAME SVN version used by OLD Sync server and JIRA instance syncing with.
11) Test a link with an INCREMENTAL sync to confirm it still has connectivity
12) when satisfied with links, DE-Commission old Sync Server
