Need more detailed tracking for UFT license usage
Question ID: 108306

We’ve recently been hitting our license capacity for UFT. However, there does not seem to be a way to view data on each currently-used license. For a given license, we’d like to be able to view who’s using it, which host it’s running on, and the time/date the license was reserved.

The AutoPass server only seems to give a raw number of in-use licenses. Unfortunately, the application gives no other information.

We can get a little more information via ALM, but our automation testers do not always connect to ALM when running UFT scripts (especially if they’re developing or troubleshooting a new script). So we may see eight UFT connections in the ALM admin tool when there are actually 11 licenses being used.

Is there a way to get more information out of AutoPass (or its log files/database) on currently in-use UFT licenses? If we had this data we could more effectively use our existing licenses (purchasing extra ones is probably not an option at the moment).

Here's a quick way to see your license usage history for reporting:

1) Log into AutoPass.

2) Click on License Usage.

3) From the License Usage page, click on the corresponding *Feature ID link* that you want to see:

(in my screenshot example, you would click the ''10594:1'' hyperlink)

4) Clicking on the Feature ID link brings you to the license by feature page:

5) From here, you'll see you can toggle between ''In Use'' and ''History'' tabs. Click on the History tab. Select the Date Rage you want (and Pool, if needed). You'll see the graph and table below reflect the changes.

If needed, you can click on the ''Export to Excel'' button...

...which will generate a spreadsheet with user/usage information:

Additional resources:

UFT AutoPass license reporting information can be found starting on page 72 of the AutoPass User Guide (''License Usage Reports''). Specifically, also check out the ''Feature Report Page (License Usage Pane)'' section starting on page 81.
