Restoring missing data in ALM?
Question ID: 108483

Hello,
We have recently had a server crash and we were able to restore from a much older backup to get the project restored. Everything is working correctly on the project and we would like to restore the data that is missing and was added since this last back up.

How do we access the QC backups that are automatically created by the application to save our data? We are unable to find these backup folders anywhere on the system, Where should we be looking to find them?

All help with this issue is greatly appreciated.

Hello Homerj,
Unfortunately I have some bad news for you. There is no automatic back up system that exists within the implementation of ALM. Routine back up of the system is recommended for both the project repository ad the DB schemas and they should be taken at the same point in time to make sure they contain the same information and increase your chances for success in restoration if needed (and it is recommended to take the backups with the project deactivated to insure the greatest success), however these are the responsibility of the end user to create. No automated process is available to do this from within the application itself, therefor there are no backups that exists outside of those that your data management and security/IT personnel would be responsible for within your organization.

Hope that answers your question,
Dan
