”Installation has failed contact your system administrator” error installing ALM/QC client.

Hi,
We are having an issue when trying to install the client on user’s systems. We recently updated the patch level, and we are requiring the installation of a new certificate necessary for VPN and other usage.

Any ideas of what caused this and how to get around it? Everything worked normally until recently.

Hi HomerJ,

This issue could be caused by a few issues.

The first possibility is that the HP certificate could be expired. This issue is a known issue that originated late last year, as the HP Certificate had been up for renewal. If you have not updated you certificate, then you ail need to do this first. You can download the Verisign certificate and install on your system. The directions on how to perform this are contained within the readme notees for the patch updates (included when downloading the patch file). Contact your system administrator to obtain this file and the directions to install it into your system.

The second issue could be with the other certificate that you have recently installed. I would suggest that you type the QC URL address followed by Apps ( http:///qcbin/Apps ) and then turn on the client log application (select the place to save the log files) and then rerun the installation. This time when/ if it fails again then you have the log file captured to find out what caused this error. Within the log files should be a clue as to the error being experienced. (note: you may need to open a case with your support group if unsure how to analyze this log file.)

I have seen where this log file reveals that the signature is invalid on the certificate file you recently added . If you can't get a properly signed file, you may have to go into the advanced settings of IE and turn off the setting to check for server certificate file revocation options.

I hope this helps resolve your issues,

Dan
