You normally shouldn't have to modify mandatory and assistive properties of an object to perform a checkpoint.

You should be able to select all of the properties you want to check when you create the standard checkpoint from the dialog box that pops up.

Are you adding the standard checkpoint while you are recording? You should be able to click the Standard Checkpoint from the drop-down on the recording toolbar and click the object you want to check. At that point, you should see the object is a hierarchy. Next, after clicking OK, you should see a list of all of the properties you can check. You then click the box next to each property you want to check, and uncheck the ones you don't want.
