ALM Lab instance runnng on VMWorkstation question.

We have a small ALM instance running that we regression test the ALM patches on before rolling out to production.

The instance is running in VMWorkstation shared mode so that the Lab instance automatically starts up when the physical server reboots and we don’t have to have the VMWorkstation application visible on the desktop.

We noticed that when running a VM in shared mode the Shared Folder option is not visible/available on the options tab. This is not a bug because this is mentioned in the VMWorkstation support documentation.

Without this we are unable to access the directories on the host machine.
Any ideas?

Yes, many have encountered this frustrating scenario.

Here is a workaround for you.
Goto the options tab of the VM instance.
Find the Guest Isolation settings a few lines from the top.
There you will see a checkbox to enable VMCI.
When the checkbox is enabled, you can map to shared directories on the host machine.
One thing to note is that if you are using bridged as the network connection, you can add an additional network adapter with a NAT connection enabled.

Thanks for posting this, We have struggled with this for awhile. We tried to stop using the shared option and just went back to local. Long story short, we created to script to attempt to autostart the vminstance on boot, but had to move it to login. Not a good option. We will look at using the VMCI option soon. Thanks again.
