License Question

Hi – I was wondering about the different types of licenses I have and how to confirm that someone working remotely is using a Global license versus a site or area license? We have some resources in EMEA and APAC that use QC occasionally and I don’t know if there is a separate setup for those users to ensure they are using Global licenses?

As far as the HP ALM or HP QC Ent application is concerned there are no geographic restrictions. The purchasing company is responsible for keeping track of an enforcing the restrictions.

The restrictions are defined by HP as follows...

Site

means a license allowing the software to be used at an address (e.g., room number, department number, building number, street address, campus etc.) or a group of addresses specified in the applicable Supporting Material. Site cannot include multiple addresses or addresses in multiple countries or states. Site licenses cannot be moved to an alternate Site after the original purchase without paying to HP a geographic relocation fee. If no Site address is explicitly specified in the Supporting Material, then the Site address will be the Ship To address specified on the quotation.

Area

means a license allowing the software to be used in a single region, defined as the Americas (North, Central and South America and Mexico) or EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) or JAPAC (Japan, Asia, Pacific Rim and Australia); Area cannot be global or multiple regions. Area is determined where the order for the license is placed, unless the applicable Supporting Material indicates otherwise. Area licenses cannot be moved to an alternate Area from where the original order was placed, without paying to HP a geographic relocation fee.

Global

means the right to use software worldwide.

As far as I know you are on your honor. There is no direct way to make sure certain users use certain types of licences (site/area/Global) Until however if HP does an audit they will pull your users from Site Admin and log on logs from ALM/QC and verify your ratio of site/area/global matches what you own. Meaning if you have 25 site and 25 global for example but your site admin as 100 site and 200 global users and the log in logs show similar usage then your in trouble.
At least that is what they did to us. Fortunately our ratios were in compliance. I asked the same, this was a few years ago, and they had no good answer how to say in compliance. :-(
If something has changed or someone knows a way to make this happen please let us know.
