Does the ALM patch installation require the same installation steps in the new version as it did in the older ones?

Hi,
I was wondering if the patch installation procedure is the same for the newer versions of ALM as it was in the past for Quality Center and early ALM versions where I install the initial version first and then install the patch on top of that version to get to the version desired,

Thanks,
HomerJ

Hi HomerJ,

Since ALM 12.2x, the patches are now all complete installers. The idea is that you can then install directly from the patch and have the latest updates installed upon completion without the need to install the GA release and then patch afterwards. What is supposed to happen is that when running, the patch scans the system for previously installed versions and then uninstalls previous versions if they exists and then installs the full patched version after the system is clean of prior versions. This speeds the installation time up considerably as this alleviates the need to install the GA release and then patch it and does the entire procedure in one installation procedure. If you are installing an older version, unfortunately you will still need to install the GA and then once it is up and running go back and install the update/patch afterward.

I hope this answers your question and provides clarification on this issue.

Thanks,
Dan
