Excel add-in error Automation error Invalid access to memory location

On a new workstation, just installed excel add-in for Quality Center. Running Office 2010, same as on many other newer workstations here that work just fine with the add-in, 32-bit version. Add-in works fine on these other Windows 7 machines. We are able to import test cases without issue.

The new workstation though throws an error when I click on the Export to Quality Center button under the add-ins tab. Error message: "A general error has occurred. Restart Microsoft Excel. ‘Automation error Invalid access to memory location."’

I have tried delete and reinstall, with new version of the add-in available. QC connection is fine, I can test that out on the workstation. I am guessing there must be some setting within excel, but not finding what I need obviously.

Sounds like you might have the Enable Data Execution Prevention Mode enabled for your Excel instance on that particular workstation.

Need to have that mode unchecked and thus disabled.

Open your Excel 2010 and navigate to File=>Options=>Trust Center=>Trust Center Settings(button on right side)=>Protected View(on left panel).

Under Protected View, at the bottom of the list in the right side panel you should see Data Execution Prevention and under it Enable Data Execution Prevention Mode. Remove the check from the box to the left and then hit on OK button on the bottom of the window. Click OK on the next window. I would suggest closing Excel and reopening and then checking if you can do the Export to Quality Center without the error message pop up.

It was enabled. Unchecking the option and reopening excel, export to quality center gave me the popup to connect to QC. No more error. Thank you.
