Information/Specifications on iTunes and why it’s needed for iOS devices in Mobile Center

Please point me to the documentation/justification for requesting iTunes installation for our Mobile Center instance.
We installed and set up Mobile Center some time ago and everything was set up and working great; however, after that iTunes was removed from our MC workstation.
I had to open a work order to our desktop team to reinstall it and they want reasons to get it whitelisted.
I have to submit some documentation. Please help me find what’s needed for iTunes. Or is there a way to work with the iOS devices in Mobile Center without iTunes?

Here is a link to the documentation in Mobile Center that points out the need for iTunes:

If the Agent does not install on the iOS device and it is connected properly to the USB Port then problem may be:

iTunes is not installed, or you are not using the most up-to-date version of iTunes on the Connector computer.
In this case, you should download the latest version of iTunes.
