What is the difference between the 32 and 64-bit ALM client registration in ALM 16.01?

When trying to register my ALM Client from the … \ qcbin “Tools” page in ALM 16.01, I now see 32 and 64-bit options to run it.

What is the difference?

I know my OS (Windows) is 64-bit, so why would I need to install one or the other?

this is a new option in ALM 16.01 and later.

It helps with Office-64 running with ALM.  It turns on a flag to allow a "surrogate" COM API library (comsurrogate=true) to run so that ALM Excel or Word integrations (Excel Add-in, Word Add-in) can work with a load of 64-bit Office.

Previously, you either needed to us the 32-bit version of Office (Excel/Word) or perform a registry "hack" to get the surrogate to work.
