Truncated text in ALM client for win10 on vmware, can’t apply resolution as vmware tools alters the settings back

We use windows 10 vms with vmware. Not all, but a large number of the win10 vms will show the ALM client with truncated text. You only see first letter or letters, stuff is cut off all over. I saw another post where it was recommended to fix this that you disable the custom scaling level and have it set to 100% and no higher. Well when I make that change, I get prompted to log out/log back in to enforce the change. I do so, and after a few seconds I get a vmware tools pop up that says it had to adjust the resolution please click ok to logoff and then log back in. If I hit OK, when I log back in, the custom scaling is set back to what it was (number well above 100%) and thus the ALM view is off again. Now if I hit cancel, vmware tools won’t do the change and ALM looks fine. But if you reboot the scaling is back. So this is not really a fix at all. I need a permanent way to disable the scaling and stop vmware tools from adjusting back.
